So How Did You Spend Your New Year’s Eve?

I remember as a little kid pleading with my parents to let me stay up and see this ball drop thing on New Year’s Eve. I didn’t understand what it was exactly but I knew that it was a big deal and that I needed to see it. Plus I just thought it would be cool to stay up until midnight.

Now I am just as happy to be snug in my warm bed at midnight on New Year’s Eve. And, hey. If I happen… Continue reading

It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

snow measureThe storm of the decade began along the Shoreline just after sundown on Saturday. This, of course, gave us time to tear around like lunatics buying everything that wasn’t nailed down regardless of whether we needed it or not: it was gonna snow!!! A LOT!!! So we now needed stuff we never needed before.

And snow it did; into the night and when night became cold Sunday morning it was still snowing. Unlike the majority of Connecticut snowstorms this one hit the coast the hardest, leaving only a few inches north and… Continue reading

Oh Christmas Tree Oh Christmas Tree

1-08kittiesMy favorite thing about this time of the year is the lights. I’m not fond of those big, awkward blow-up decorations that started appearing a few years back or the mechanical stuff or anything too over-the-top….just lights thank you. A simple light-filled tree in the yard or a string of lights along a deck (especially if the deck is on the water and the lights reflect off the water) are the perfect holiday addition.

And there has to be a Christmas… Continue reading

The Official Article About Official State Of Connecticut Stuff

CTsignIn my endless quest to learn more about the State that I have called home for the past 20 years, I recently took to the internet.

My curiosity was piqued during a recent conversation with a friend about the Praying Mantis. Every Fall I spot more than a few of the little aliens in my backyard and I know that they are the Official State Insect of Connecticut. (More precisely, the European Praying Mantis is the state… Continue reading

Eating Milford: The Woodmont Section

SloppyJoseThere are a number of great bars and restaurants in Milford these days and I’d like to bring four of them to your attention, all of which are “off the beaten path”…in the Woodmont section of Milford: Sloppy Jose’s, Bazso’s, Beach House and Scribners. If you aren’t familiar with Woodmont, it is the eastern-most section of Milford along the Sound, just before you get to West Haven.

Of the four restaurants, the one I have spent the most time at is Sloppy Jose’s.… Continue reading

Celebrate The Holidays By Helping Our Furry Friends

pamTis the season to give. And this year individuals and organizations are going to feel the effects of a bad economy probably more than ever. Remember that every little bit helps; no donation is ever “too little” whether it is one dollar or one can of peas. Think of the result if every person gave “a little”.

In this season of giving, I turn my attention to the critters. Through my years on the radio, I have (happily) gained a reputation for being… Continue reading

Real Mets Fans Do Not Root For The Yankees

PamLandryCitiFieldI am originally from New York. When it comes to baseball, I am a New York Metropolitans fan. If the Mets are not “in it” (which of course is most of the time) I do not automatically root for the Yankees because they are the other New York team. Nope. In fact, I root AGAINST them.

Most Yankee fans that I know do not understand this. They will say “if the Yankees are not in it and the Mets are, I’ll root for the Mets”.… Continue reading

Boo Humbug!

Pam10-09I don’t like Halloween.

There.  I said it.  Not a popular opinion, I know.

But does it make me a bad American?

I think not.

This is not to say I’ve always disliked Halloween.   When I was a kid, I thought Halloween was fun.  Dressing up, knocking on doors, coming home with a sack full of candy.  Not a bad way to spend an autumn evening when you’re a kid.

I grew up in a middle-class suburban family; we lived in apartments until my parents bought their first – and only – house sometime in the late… Continue reading

Brother Can You Spare A Job?

PamLandryCitiFieldLike so many other folks, I am unemployed. More precisely, I am partially employed, working part-time at two radio stations and picking up occasional voice-over jobs all of which I am grateful for but all of which combined will not pay my mortgage let alone my electric bill.

And, like so many other folks, I am only partially employed because of a horrendous economy, not because of anything I did to get myself fired. I was laid off from a place I went to for… Continue reading

Move Over!

9-6-09PamMetsHey kids, there’s a new law in Connecticut. It’s called the “Move Over” law and it was passed because, apparently, there are so many self-absorbed drivers on the road that the state has to start fining people to get them to pull their heads out of their you-know-whats.

In case you don’t know, the “Move Over” law says motorists must slow down when approaching a stopped emergency vehicle that is displaying flashing lights and, when possible, should move over one lane to give said emergency… Continue reading
